Kaudulla National Park

Kaudulla National Park, located in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province, is a prime destination for elephant safaris and wildlife encounters. Nestled near the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, the park features the Kaudulla Tank, a large reservoir that attracts hundreds of elephants during the dry season, similar to nearby Minneriya National Park. Beyond elephants, Kaudulla is home to leopards, sloth bears, water buffalo, sambar deer, and a diverse array of bird species, including pelicans, storks, and herons. The park’s combination of open grasslands, forest patches, and wetlands creates varied habitats for wildlife and offers excellent opportunities for safari photography. Its relatively quiet environment compared to other parks ensures a more intimate and immersive
experience with nature, ideal for both seasoned wildlife enthusiasts and first-time visitors.
