Udawalawe National Park

Description

Udawalawe National Park is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to observe wild elephants in their natural habitat. Known for its vast open grasslands and shimmering reservoir, the park is home to over 500 resident elephants, making sightings almost guaranteed throughout the year. In addition to elephants, visitors may encounter water buffalo, spotted deer, sambar, jackals, and the occasional leopard. The park is also a haven for birdwatchers, with a rich diversity of raptors, kingfishers, and waterbirds often spotted near the Udawalawe Reservoir. Its flat terrain and open landscapes make it particularly rewarding for photography and safari drives, offering a truly immersive wildlife experience.
